Students need just $5 for the bus and money for their lunch. There is no cost for the Science activities nor the tours.

It is vital that all 4 forms be returned by this Thursday as students will not be able to just show up to school on Monday, expecting to go without them. Some of these forms are from MUN so it is a bit more strict for safety purposes.

Heritage Fair reminder:

The project MUST include:
1. The research - at least 3 varied sources, properly cited in a bibliography. No plagiarism. I will be checking. Most students will have considerably more sources than 3. However, this is the minimum. They also MUST be varied (so they can not be three web sources. You can get information from a book, an encyclopedia, a newspaper, a journal, a monument, an interview...)

2. The physical project itself. This can take on many varying forms - a tri-fold poster board, a video, a performance, a painting. You name it, and you can create it! However, for those students wishing to be considered for the Regional fair, you MUST do a tri-fold board, If you wish to also do a sculpture/painting/video etc.... you can.

3. Oral presentation. You will be presenting your research and your physical project to the class starting on the week of April 8. Presentation orders will be chosen randomly. Students MUST be ready to present on their dates. Otherwise lateness will result in a deduction of points.

Hello Parents;

A final reminder that the major Science projects for this year are due on Monday, Feb. 25.

If your child is doing, Researching a Scientist, Science in the media or Researching a Career then these are digital projects that are to be completed in a Google format and emailed to me on Sunday, Feb. 24. Students have instructions on how to do this.

If your child is doing a model or a game then it is due on Monday, Feb. 25.

If your child is doing an experiment then the experiment write-up has to be completed but not all the results need to entirely done. Your child needs to chat with me about their experiment so I can check that everything is okay.

If your child is doing a bridge then it must be in school on Monday, Feb. 25 for me to take pictures and verify it is done properly. Students will get their bridge back that week to take home. They will get a letter for you that will have our school time for the Bridge competition at the Geo Centre on Sat, March 2. All bridges must attend this competition to fulfill the project assignment.

Please check with your child to see how things are going with their project.

There were a few small clarification points to your project: the family tree. Please make sure you are well under way in this. The majority of your marks come from the physical appearance of the project, not the research! So don't do it last minute! It will look rushed!

Students went to the tech. lab to work on a reliability activity of on-line sources. If you cam out of it understanding that you can't always trust what you read, particularly online, then that's great!

I forgot to mention today, but your quiz is scheduled for Wednesday, October 4! I'll mention it tomorrow!

Students discussed their project for unit 1: a family tree. Please visit my website for a copy of the grading rubric if you lost your paper copy.

Students should research back to their great grand parents. However, only do what you can by asking family members. There is no need to stress out and pay money for a genetic researcher to create a family tree for you!

Also, there are many family structures. Please do what you are comfortable doing. This project is more about getting used to basic research than it is about uncovering things you are not comfortable with.

Final note: the majority of your mark is artistic! So take you time, pre-plan and make it look good!

Due date: le 29 sept.
